I am a first-generation college student at CSU Monterey Bay, majoring in Computer Science with a concentration in Data Science, where I will be graduating in May 2022.
This is a super simple site that allows me to show some of my journey as a programmer.
It was really just a fun project for me to learn more about how to actually acquire a domain and host a live website on my own.
I also used it as a good opportunity to practice some HTML, CSS/SASS, and Javascript.
Hello!
I'm Noah. This is my website, and I would love for you to take a look and get to know me better.
My Work Experience as an Engineer
Here is a roundup of some of my best experiences as a programmer and engineer! My main goal going into any role is always to learn as much as I can and meet great new people. I'm thankful that I have been able to do just that in all of these roles.
Enterprise Engineering Internship at Facebook
Summer 2021
This internship is for the upcoming summer (2021). I will be working on programming enterprise-facing products at Facebook. I'm super excited to have this opportunity, and I will make sure to update this section once I have completed the internship!
Software Engineering Internship at Uber
Uber Eats Courier Pricing Team Summer 2020
This was my first ever technical/SWE internship, which I did back in the summer of 2020.
Even though it had to be remote due to the unexpected pandemic, it was still an amazing experience for me.
It allowed me to get a lot of insight into how the industry is and I was able to work on some cool things on the Courier Pricing team.
I worked mainly with Python, but I also got experience working with new technologies like Spark, Hive, Grafana,
and I also worked with SQL for the first time during this. It was really exciting to see what my career could have in store for me in the future.
I also love that I was able to meet so many great people such as the full-time engineers in my team and also other interns that I worked with throughout the summer.
Teaching Assistant for Google's CSSIx Program
Computer Science Summer Institute Summer 2019
I previously graduated from the CSSIx program in the summer leading up to my first year in college (2018).
Because I had such a great experience in the program as a student, I was thrilled to hear that I could return the next summer as a Teaching Assistant!
So in the summer of 2019, I was lucky enough to come back and help educate the new class of incoming freshman and give them a proper introduction to programming, particularly web development.
During my time as a TA, I was able to help guide students through the process of developing a working website, using Python, HTML, CSS, and API implementation.
I led daily office hours to 45+ students, where I debugged code, providing project assistance.
I also got some valuable experience performing code reviews for several webdev projects from start to finish.
Volunteering / Extracurriculars
Just a few things that I am passionate about and have had the opportunity to participate in.
CSU Monterey Bay Programming Team
Secretary Leadership Role 2018-Present
With a focus on competitive programming, the CSUMB programming team is maintained as a space for passionate programmers to come together to improve their skills. We have meetings every week to help establish a strong supporting community, where we host school-wide coding competitions. We focus on practice problems involving Algorithms & Data Structures, mainly using Python and C++. These problems are helpful in preparing students for formal programming competitions and also for technical job interviews as well.
Loaves Fishes & Computers Non-Profit
Volunteer Technician 2019
The LFC is a non-profit organization that supports the Salinas community with a focus on computer education.
Volunteering here was a really nice experience that helped me learn a lot more about computer hardware.
While I was there, I helped repair electronic systems (computers, printers, etc.) at little to no cost for low-income local families.
I also assisted with community workshops that helped teach the youth how to build & maintain their own computers.
I had a great time working alongside full-time technicians to refurbish hundreds of donated systems that we were able to give back to the community.
International Collegiate Programming Contest
Competitor 2019
This picture to the left shows the CSUMB programming team and I enjoying a celebratory dinner, after competing in a regional competition in San Jose, CA.
In this particular competition, I was among 82 teams in a division 2 coding contest, with a team of three people.
We worked together to solve several competitive programming problems using Python & C++.
It was really fun working with friends in a competitive environment, and although we didn't win, we all were super happy to have been able to be a part of the competition.
Things I Can Do
These are some of the programming languages and technologies that I have been able to work with and learn about during my time as a computer science student and as a programming engineer.
